Professor Alan Penn talks about shop floor plan design, Ikea, and dark patterns.

He monitored the way people move through large retail stores and re-architected the layout to astonishing results. He discovered that doubling the number of people through the door didn’t result in a doubling of sales. By watching the patterns of how people moved, he realized that the crowded store forced people to keep moving, thus preventing them to stop to consider purchasing.
